The University of Siena, UN-SDSN, as leader of the Plastic Busters for a Mediterranean free from litter project, and GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit), are organizing a meeting in Siena (Italy) on 15th of April 2016 in order to move forward the implementation of the project. The Plastic Busters project was presented to the Union for the Mediterranean and labeled at the SOM meeting the 16th February 2016.
University of Siena and UN-SDSN are extremely pleased with labelling of the project, which took place in a strategic moment as marine litter is very high in the Mediterranean and in the international agenda. An important moment was created by the 2 UfM Ministerials on Environment and Climate Change and the one on Blue Economy as well as with the adoption of the Mediterranean Regional on Marine Litter of UNEP/MAP, and important operational links with the H2020 Initiative for a Cleaner Mediterranean as well as with Sustainable Consumption and Production activities. Marine litter is also very high in the G7 agenda as underlined in the last G7 meeting in Germany.
The meeting will be held at "Palazzo del Rettorato" of the University of Siena April 14-15, 2016. Public and private bodies potentially interested to support the project are invited to participate to the 15th of April event together with the project promoters.
