InternazionalePRECIOUS, Promoting pluralistic education in European universities to combat invisible discrimination related to LGBTQ+V
The project aims to promote an unbiased HE community characterized by a culture capable of counteracting invisible homophobia or transphobia and promoting a culture of differences; to produce a cultural change, not working only with the specific group, but acting on the structural reasons that caused the discomfort, overcoming the concept of “their inclusion” with “plurality”; to empower students (and in general the entire university community) in order not to become unbiased citizens.
The project deals with the topic of invisible homophobia (discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity, but also lesbophobia, transphobia, biphobia, intersex phobia, aphobia), which is internalized.
The project aims to produce a cultural change, not working only with the specific group or office (listening desk) but acting on the structural reasons, overcoming the terms “they” and “us” and substituting the concept “their inclusion” with “plurality”.
For HEIs to foster inclusion, it is not sufficient to have a “diverse student body”, it is rather necessary to promote a real inclusive culture, not merely by offering to students with special needs, or vulnerabilities “special arrangements” to adapt to the existing learning environment, but by developing policies and practices capable to enhance empowerment and participation by all students.
