  • 15 June 2023

The University of Siena announces its participation in the closing meeting of the Critical Incidents in Intercultural Communication and Promoting Diversity (CIICPD) project and the prestigious conference, “BEYOND HORIZONS” held in Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic.
.
The CIICPD project, coordinated by Skoda Auto University and co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, successfully concluded its implementation. This collaborative initiative brought together five higher education institutions from different countries: Skoda Auto University (Czech Republic), University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria (Austria), West Saxon University of Applied Sciences of Zwickau (Germany), Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences (Finland), and the University of Siena (Italy). The project aimed to
analyze critical incidents in multicultural environments and foster cultural diversity within educational and professional institutions.
.
Throughout the project, the partners conducted an in-depth analysis of critical incidents, addressing their causes and leveraging their positive potential for personal and corporate development. One of the remarkable outputs of the project is the publication of the book "Emerging research on critical incidents in Europe: a multidisciplinary approach," released in 2023.

To showcase the project’s results and explore potential future collaborations, the partners organized the two-day “BEYOND HORIZONS” conference at Skoda Auto University in Mlada Boleslav on June 1st and 2nd, 2023. The conference aimed to facilitate a vibrant international forum, bringing together academic and professional institutions and companies to discuss common themes, interconnections, and future perspectives in today’s rapidly expanding world.
.
The event featured esteemed keynote speakers, including Prof. Jiří Nekvapil (Charles University, Prague), Jan Kotík (SEAT S.A, Spain), Prof. Libor Stepanek (Masaryk University Language Centre, Brno, Czech Republic), and Prof. Vít Dovalil (Charles University, Prague). Their inspiring presentations were complemented by engaging workshops, several of which were led by CIICPD partners. The workshops covered various topics such as "Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Critical Incidents" by Susanne Klein and
Doris Fetscher (West Saxon University of Applied Sciences of Zwickau), "(Transnational) Tandem Cooperation as Preparation for Professional Practice" by Dagmar Sieglová (Skoda Auto University), “HEAD for and DIVE into Diversity Management” by Victoria Rammer (University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria), and “Diversity Inclusion Practices at Automotive Firms in Czechia” by Emil Velinov (Skoda Auto University). Additionally, the final presentation showcased the achievements of students who participated in the summer school within the CIICPD project.

During the closing meeting, the partners discussed the final formal steps of the project, which is set to conclude in August 2023. They also began exploring ideas for future collaborations and the continuation of successful practices established during the project, such as tandem teaching.

The University of Siena expresses its gratitude to all project partners and participants for their dedication,  valuable contributions, and the enriching experience gained through the CIICPD project. The university remains committed to fostering intercultural communication and promoting diversity in the educational and professional landscape.
