Valerio Vignoli graduated in Electronic Engineering at the University of Florence in 1989, was employed by the Italian Society for the Telecommunications Exercise (SIP) from 1989 to 1991, and obtained the PhD degree in 'Non-Destructive Controls' from the University of Florence in 1994. He was an Assistant Professor (1997-2004) and then an Associate Professor (2005-2020) at the Department of Information Engineering and Mathematics of the of University of Siena, where, since 2020, he is a Full Professor in Electronics.
His main research interests include analog and digital electronic design; design, characterization and modeling of advanced sensors for monitoring physical quantities; development of data acquisition and processing systems. The skills acquired in these fields have led him over the years to collaborate with several small, medium and large industrial companies (among these latter: Nuovo Pignone Tecnologie Srl, Infineon Technologies Italia Srl, Italian Railway Network - RFI), as well as with several research groups, and to have an active role in terms of technology transfer (he has been a founding member of two university spin-off companies, and is among the inventors of 7 patents). His research activity is documented by more than 220 papers (journals or international conference papers).
