Since 1987 she works at the University of Siena, first as responsible of the Botanic Garden following research, educational and organizational activities and since 2002 as permanent researcher and temporary professor in Mycology and Museology of Natural Sciences. Her research interest is addressed to Mycology, with emphasis on macromycetes, monitoring of fungal communities, checking, mapping and conservation topics, like Important Plant Areas (IPA) and fungi areas (IMA).
She cooperate in various national and international projects, is member of the Executive Committee of the European Council for the Conservation of Fungi - ECCF, adviser in Planta Europa Network –PE, member of the World Conservation Union - IUCN Species Survival Commission - Mushroom, Brackets and Puffball Specialist Group, former secretary of the European Mycological Association EMA, member of the council of “Accademia dei Fisocritici”.
In recognition for her contribution to Plant Conservation in Europe over many years she was presented with the Planta Europa’s Silver Leaf Award (2014).
Was invited speaker at various international congresses and reviewed numerous manuscripts also for Biodiversity and Conservation, Biological Invasions, Bocconea, Plant Biosystems, Fungal Ecology.
More than 180 publications, among them co-author of some books.
