Eleonora Bagnani ha 27 anni. Si è laureata triennalmente in Scienze dei beni storico-artistici, musicali, cinematografici e teatrali presso l'Università degli studi di Siena, con una tesi sulla musica pigmea, in particolare sul rapporto tra la vocalità e la struttura sociale della popolazione. Ha conseguito la laurea biennale in Linguaggi dello spettacolo e del multimediale, presso il medesimo ateneo, con una tesi in arte contemporanea e musica dal titolo: Videoarte. Musica per immagini. Attualmente frequenta il secondo anno della Scuola di Dottorato in Logos e Rappresentazione, sezione Comparatistica dell'Università di Siena, con un progetto che indaga le figure femminili e la loro vocalità nell'opera del Settecento, in particolare nella trilogia Mozart - Da Ponte.
Nicoletta (1983) is 26 years old and comes from Fabbrico, a little town near Reggio Emilia. In November 2006 she graduated in Lingue e Letterature Moderne at the University of Bologna, Laurea Triennale, curriculum "Scienze delle Letterature" and wrote a thesis on comparative linguistic which title is "Lingue in contatto: bilinguismo, diglossia e code switching". She is currently attending a Laurea Specialistica in Comparative Literature at the University of Bologna.
Paola Busoli ha 24 anni e viene da Mirandola, Modena. Si è laureata in Lingue e Letterature Straniere all'Università di Bologna con una tesi in Letteratura Nederlandese curata dalla prof.ssa Tina Montone e correlata dal prof. Gino Scatasta, focalizzata sul concetto di scrittura come riparazione e intitolata: "Eros e Thanatos divorano Psiche. Jan Wolkers & Edna O'Brien, un approccio critico psicoanalitico". Al momento è iscritta al corso di laurea magistrale in Letterature Moderne, Comparate e Postcoloniali presso l'Università di Bologna. È membro dell'American Association for Italian Studies per la quale, nel maggio 2009, ha tenuto una conferenza dal titolo "Pier Vittorio Tondelli: Portrait of a Postmodern Wanderer" presso la Sint John's University di Manhattan, NY.
Laura Cencini ha 27 anni. Si è laureata presso la Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia dell'Università degli Studi di Siena (sede di Arezzo), con una tesi sul tema del ritorno nel Romanzo di formazione ottocentesco. Attualmente sta frequentando il terzo anno del Dottorato di ricerca in Logos e Rappresentazione, sezione Comparatistica: Letteratura, Teatro e Cinema, e si occupa del rapporto di Letteratura e Cinema con le strutture del romanzo tradizionale, nel periodo che va dalla fine della Resistenza fino alla metà degli anni Sessanta. Partecipa a Synapsis dal 2005 ed ha pubblicato due saggi nei Quaderni di Synapsis, rispettivamente sul tema dell'Esilio e sul tema dello Scandalo.
Monica Domeniconi graduated in 1996 in Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Bologna with a dissertation on the intertextuality between Seamus Heaney's Station Island and Dante's Divina Commedia. In 2000 she qualified to teach English as a Second Language and in 2007 she completed a postgraduate course SSIS, at the University of Bologna, on the same topic. She started her PhD on the Literatures and Cultures of English speaking Countries in January 2008 at the University of Bologna. Her research project focuses on contemporary Irish-American fiction and identity making.
Mirko Lino, ho 29 anni e mi sono laureato nel 2006 in Scienze della Comunicazione a Palermo con la tesi "L'inizio e la fine. L'apocalisse nel cinema di Werner Herzog", dopo la laurea sempre a Palermo ho fatto un master universitario di I° livello in "Comunicazione e Cultura Visuale". Sono al terzo anno del dottorato in Generi Letterari presso l'Università de L'aquila e la mia tesi tratta dell'apocalisse nella letteratura e nel cinema del Postmoderno, ovvero un'analisi delle forme della persistenza e della distruzione dello scritto giovanneo all'interno delle dinamiche culturali del postmodernismo. Tra le mie principali pubblicazioni segnalo il saggio "Iconoclastia e Galileo. L'immagine oltre la rappresentazione ne L'ignoto spazio profondo di Werner Herzog" in "L'immagine ripresa in parola. Letteratura, Cinema e altre visioni" a cura di M.Colombi e S. Esposito, Meltemi, 2008. All'interno del territorio siciliano mi occupo dell'organizzazione e cura di manifestazioni legate al cinema: ho curato e organizzato un festival sul cinema indipendente siciliano e uno sul cinema etnoantropologico, ora sono alle prese con l'organizzazione di un festival cinematografico in gemellaggio con il Cartagine Film Festival previsto per il prossimo ottobre a Palermo.
Kenise Lyons ha 31 anni ed è di University Park, Maryland (USA). Si è laureata nelle scienze politiche all'Università del Maryland (BA, 2001) e nella letteratura e lingua italiana all'Università Cattolica dell'America (MA, 2005) e alla Yale University (MA, MPhil 2009). È al quinto anno del programma PHD presso la Facoltà di Italiano della Yale. In questo periodo, sta lavorando sulla sua dissertazione, sotto la direzione di Millicent Marcus, la quale analizza la presenza fotografica nella produzione letteraria e filmica italiana fra 1945 e 1995. I suoi interventi di convegno includono "Mery Per Sempre and the Ashes of Gramsci" (AAIS 2005) "Lalla Romano and the Art of Writing with Light: A Preliminary Reading of the Photographic Presence in La penombra che abbiamo attraversato" (CUA 2009) e "Giovanni Verga and the Sociopolitical Significance of Disease" (AAIS 2009). È la sua prima volta che partecipa a Synapsis.
Valentina Martemucci (1982) ha conseguito la Laurea Triennale in Letterature Europee e la Laurea Specialistica in Studi Filologici e Letterari presso la Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia dell'Aquila con una tesi dal titolo: "Nuovi romanzi dell'io. L'autofiction nella narrativa italiana contemporanea". Attualmente è iscritta al secondo anno del corso di dottorato in Generi Letterari presso la Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia dell'Aquila con un progetto di ricerca sulle autofictions e le forme parallele di uso della prima persona e di attraversamento del confine tra finzione e vissuto reale. Luca Pasquale, 29 anni, laureato nel 2005 a Bologna in Lettere Moderne con tesi di laurea in "Filmologia", sul cinema di Antonioni, pubblicata da Falsopiano. Dottorando al II anno, presso l'Università di Bologna, in Letterature Comparate. Tutor e cultore della materia "Storia e critica del cinema", presso la Facoltà di Lingue di Bologna. Il suo progetto di ricerca analizza il concetto di coralità tra cinema e letteratura. Tra le varie pubblicazioni già edite: cura di "L'allusione e la tecnica - Le inquietudini di un critico" di Fernaldo Di Giammatteo (Cadmo); cura di "Paesaggi", "Film/Letterature", n. 4 (Gedit).
Elena Peregrina is 28 years old. Originally from Spain, she received her BA from Universidad de Granada (Spain) in 2003 and a MA from University of Washington (US) in 2005. Her MA thesis was titled "Federico García Lorca and Luis García Montero: lugares communes y el ansia de influencia". She is now a PhD Candidate at Princeton University and her dissertation project focus on the dialogue and interplay between literature and photography in the work of several Latin-American and Spanish authors. She was the editor and co-editor of two books related to the work of two 20th century Spanish poets: Javier Egea and Angel Gonzalez. She has also published and presented papers on Latin American 19th century literature ("Las mujeres construyen naciones: Aves sin Nido de Clorinda Matto de Turner") and visual arts ("A new (Paranoid) Way of Seeing: Dali's Ideas on Photography").
Carlo Tirinanzi De Medici (Novara 1982) ha studiato all'università di Siena dove ha conseguito sia la laurea triennale in lettere che la laurea magistrale in filologia moderna (titolo della tesi: Figure della temporalità. Tre romanzieri degli anni Sessanta: Calvino, Queneau, García Marquéz"). Sta frequentando il dottorato in Studi letterari, linguistici e filologici all'Università di Trento dove si sta occupando di teoria del romanzo e del realismo nelle letterature occidentali degli ultimi cinquant'anni. Ha trascorso periodi di ricerca a Montpellier e alla Brown University. Collabora con le riviste "Allegoria", "L'indice", "L'ospite ingrato" e "L'atelier du roman". Ha co-fondato l'Osservatorio sul romanzo contemporaneo dell'Università di Trento.
Out of the Shadows: Cinema and «The Other»
Teresa de Nitto took a Master Degree with honours in Foreign Languages and Literatures at University "L'Orientale" of Naples in 2007. She wrote a thesis in English Literature on "The comic writing of Laurence Sterne". Later she took a Master post-lauream of second level in Literary Translation at University of Cassino in 2008 and translated two collections of poems of Kamala Das. Then she took a Master post-lauream of second level in Teaching Italian Language and Culture to Foreign People at University of Tor Vergata (Rome) in 2009. Her current interests include cultural studies, postcolonial studies in a literary, philosophical, sociological and psycoanalitical perspective.
Paola Fallerini lives and works in Rome. She graduated at the Università "La Sapienza" with a thesis in cinema history and criticism on the Italian experimental cinema of the '60s and '70s. She is a PhD student in "Generi Letterari" ("Literary Genres") at the Università dell'Aquila. She is working on the cinematographic production of Theo Angelopoulos and Straub-Huillet, analysing the relation between estrangement and the reflection on history and myth in their films. She is also interested in Modern Greek Literature and Culture and its connection with Italian Literature. In June 2009, she took part in the first International Conference on Italian Studies "L'Italia vista dagli altri" organized by the University of Banja Luka in Bosnia-Herzegovina, with a paper on the Italian education of the National Greek Poet Dionysios Solomòs.
Anna Franchin is 24 and in March 2009 she graduated at the University of Bologna in Classical Philology. Her research interests concern both Ancient Literature and Contemporary Cinema. In her final thesis (Laurea Specialistica) she applied the Greek concept of 'aion' to Wim Wenders's works, as far as both content and forms of representation are concerned. At the moment she is working on the publication of an interview she was given by Wenders and on another excerpt from her dissertation. Her essay "Sguardi e silenzi. Il motivo del primo incontro nella letteratura antica come esperienza di comunicazione non-verbale" is published in G. Brandi (edited by), Annali del Collegio Superiore. A.A. 2007-08.
Maria Kalinova was born on 11.06.1983, Sliven, Bulgaria. She graduated in 2006 Bulgarian Philology, Faculty of Slavic Philologies, Sofia University with a M.A. degree of Literary Theory with a thesis "Narrowed Publicity: Cryptographies in the Bulgarian Revival Correspondence". She is a PhD student of Bulgarian Literature of the Revival Period at the same University . The topic of her dissertation is "Literary Publicity and the Construction of Figures of Morality". Together with Kamelia Spassova she is working on a project "Doppelgangers as Uncanny Figures in Literature" and they have some essays on that theme in important Bulgarian humanitarian magazines. She is a cofoundation member of an art-group "Ustata" ['The Mouth'] and published two books of poems "Okoto" ("The Eye"), 2004 and "Podnogieto na vecheriata" ("Under the Knife of Supper"), 2008. She is an editor of "Literaturen vestnik" ["Literary Newspaper"] from the beginning of this year.
Diana Adela Martin is 24 years old and comes from Romania. She studied Philosophy at the University of Bucharest and has a direct interest in subjects pertaining to Philosophy of Language and Modern Philosophy. In October, she will begin an interdisciplinary program at the European College of Liberal Arts in Berlin, where she will focus on developing a research paper on the topic of figurative language and of the constraints it puts in the development of a theory of meaning. She writes short stories and has published in the public press theater chronicles and sport editorials. Other interests include avant-garde theater, Romanian surrealism, literary representations of the Holocaust and Samuel Beckett.
Sara Nocciolini is 28 years old and comes from Arezzo. She graduated in Literature and Spectacle at the University of Siena with a thesis on a comparison between Flaubert's Madame Bovary and Federico De Roberto's L'illusione, that is a rewriting of Flaubert's novel. She is now enrolled in the Ph.D program in "Comparatistica: Literature, Theatre and Cinema" at the University of Siena, and her research is focused on Alexandre Dumas fils' La Dame aux camellias, in particular on the rewriting of the novel into the drama made by the author.
Georgia Panteli: I am from Greece and I'm 28 years old. I studied English language and literature in the Universities of Athens and Copenhagen. After that I moved to Vienna, Austria for three years, where among others, I made my own short film (36 min) financed by the program 'Future Capital' of the European Union. This year I have been doing an MA in Comparative Literature at UCL and at the moment I am writing my dissertation on fantasy and fairytale, identity and desire in Neil Gaiman's 'The Sandman' and Robert Coover's 'Briar Rose'. I am playing the piano, singing in choirs and I'm always interested in different languages and cultures (at the moment I'm learning Arabic, I speak Greek, English and German fluently, French and Spanish quite well and understand Italian and Danish). I have published my poems in a Greek and an American anthology.
Marialaura Simeone was born in Benevento in 1982 and graduated in Naples, at the University of Naples "Federico II" defending a thesis on philosophy and literature in Eugenio Montale. Currently, she is a Ph.D. student in "Comparatistica: letteratura, teatro, cinema" at the University of Siena-Arezzo and she is scientific collaborator of "Centro Nazionale Studi Pirandelliani" (Agrigento). From two years she works as a journalist for newspapers and specialized magazines (Il Sannio quotidiano, www.teatranti.com, Quaderni di Cinema Sud) and she teaches literary subjects on secondary school.
Kamelia Spassova was born on 24.04.1982 in Sofia, Bulgaria. She graduated a MA of Theory of Literature from Sofia University (2005-2006) with master thesis "The genre of tragedy: Muthos and Doppelgangers". At present she is a PhD student in the Theory of Literature department where she is investigating her topic "Event and Example in the order of Discourses for Literature: The Problem of Exemplarity Work" which deal with the tension between literary examples and exemplarity work in philosophical and theoretical researches. She is a founder-member of the art-group "Ustata" ["The Mouth"], published the collection of lyrics "Parcel N: 17" ["Plot N:17"]. From 2009 she is an editor of "Literaturen vestnik" ["Literary Newspaper"]. In co-authorship with Maria Kalinova she published some texts on the topic "Doppelgangers as Uncanny Figures in Literature".
Alessandra Tedesco is 24 years old and she comes from Sava, a little town near Taranto. She graduated in 2007 in Lingue e Letterature Straniere at the University of Bologna with a thesis on Philiph K. Dick, in which she analized the distopic theme in the book "A scanner darkly". In 2009 she graduated in Comparative Literatures and post-colonial cultures with a thesis on Vladimir Nabokov titled "Il prisma della letteratura: l'opera di Nabokov tra finzione e realtà", where she focused on the dicotomical relationship between reality and fiction. She is interested in the relationship between man, reality and novel, how the man conceives his own existence and the way he develops these reflexions in the literary text.
Brendan Wright: I am 21 and come from Gloucester. I have graduated from the University of Plymouth with a BA English, writing a dissertation on Haruki Murakami in the light of Western literary theory. I am now studying part-time at University College London for a masters in Comparative Literature. My current interests lie in modern fiction, novels from the past ten or twenty years, and also film; this past term I have enjoyed researching and writing an essay on apocalyptic fiction and hope to continue with this theme for my dissertation next year.
Roberto Vezzani graduated in Film History and Criticism at the University of Bologna writing the thesis "Robert Aldrich and crime literature". Now he attends the Ph.D course "Comparatistica: letteratura, teatro, cinema" (Comparative studies: literature, theatre, cinema) at the University of Siena. His Ph.D thesis focuses on the multiple connections between the sensationalist melodrama and popular literature (specifically, dime novels) and the first years of American cinema.
Anna Giannetti is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Romance Languages at the University of Oregon. She has completed a Master of Arts degree in Italian with a graduate certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies (2007) and two Bachelor of Arts degrees with majors in Art History, Humanities, and Italian (2004). Anna was also a participant in Synapsis 2006 (“Exile”) and Synapsis 2007 (“Scandal”). Her research interests are in Mediterranean studies (especially cultural exchanges between Italy and the Maghreb), postcolonial literature and film, migrant literature, literature of the “Seconde Generazioni”, autobiography and testimonial literature. Most recently she attended the Australasian Centre for Italian Studies (ACIS) Fifth Biennial Conference: “L’Italia nella Grande Migrazione” (University of Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand, February 2009), where she presented a paper entitled: Identity, language, and paternal ties in the (post)colonial female subject: A study of Erminia Dell’Oro’s L’abbandono and Hélène Cixous’ autobiographical works. She also attended the American Association of Italian Studies (AAIS) Annual Conference (St. John’s University, Manhattan, New York City, May 2009) where she presented two papers: Testimony, identity and migration in the works of Erminia Dell’Oro and Politics and narrative strategies in Caparezza’s concept albums.
"Life's but a walking shadow": Romanzi oltre la linea d'ombra
Stefano Ercolino (1985) ha conseguito nel 2007 la Laurea triennale in Letterature comparate con il Professor Massimo Fusillo, presso l'Università degli Studi dell'Aquila, con una tesi dal titolo "Nell'acqua e tra le dita. Il mito di Narciso nella Postmodernità". Conseguirà nel settembre 2009 la Laurea specialistica con una tesi dal titolo "Il romanzo massimalista. Anatomia di un genere romanzesco contemporaneo" - relatore Prof. Massimo Fusillo. Si occupa di teoria del romanzo e teoria della letteratura, di narrativa contemporanea, soprattutto statunitense, e dei rapporti di questa con la cultura visuale. Si interessa inoltre di ricezione contemporanea del mito antico, di critica tematica e del rapporto fra letteratura e psicoanalisi. Ha partecipato al convegno "Edipo e Medea. Musica, mito, psicoanalisi" tenutosi a Taormina, nell'ambito del "Giuseppe Sinopoli Festival", nel 2007, con un intervento dal titolo "Narciso narcisismo Postmodernità: intersezioni".
Linda Garosi è profesor ayudante di lingua e letteratura italiana presso la Facoltà di Lettere dell'Università di Córdoba (Spagna). Ha ottenuto il titolo di Dottore presso questa stessa Università con una tesi dedicata alla rivisitazione delle categorie storiografiche di decadentismo italiano e di modernismo spagnolo alla luce di alcune costanti fondamentali: le peculiarità della situazione italiana e spagnola nella crisi di fine secolo, i cambiamenti in atto nel genere narrativo e, infine, il tipo del personaggio decadente (e le sue distinte configurazioni). La sua attività di ricerca riguarda principalmente la narrativa italiana e spagnola tra Ottocento e Novecento, di cui ha approfondito, in saggi pubblicati, la riflessione teorica sul romanzo nella seconda metà dell'Ottocento in Italia, la figura del personaggio dell'esteta in Gabriele D'Annunzio e Ramón del Valle-Inclán o la riflessione sulla condizione statutaria dell'ente fittizio in Luigi Pirandello e Miguel de Unamuno.
Luca Vancini nasce a Lugo il 3/12/1979 a Lugo (RA). Dopo la maturità linguistica conseguita al Liceo Scientifico "Ricci Curbastro" di Lugo, ha frequentato la facoltà di Lettere Moderne all'Università di Bologna. Nel 2005 si è laureato cum laude in Teoria della Letteratura, sotto la supervisione del prof. Federico Bertoni e del prof. Ferdinando Amigoni, con una tesi sulla teoria del novel e del romance, intitolata "L'eccezione e la regola. Percorsi del romance tra Otto e Novecento". Frequenta attualmente il Dottorato di ricerca in Letterature Comparate all'Università di Bologna.
Laura Maxia si è laureata nel 2001 in Lingue e Letterature Straniere all'Università di Cagliari con una tesi dal titolo "Paul Morand. Il viaggio e la scrittura". Nel 2004 ha ottenuto il Diplôme d'Etudes Approfondies en Littérature Française presso l'Université Paris IV - Sorbonne. Attualmente è al terzo anno di dottorato alla Universität Zürich (Romanisches Seminar) con una tesi comparata sulle poetiche di Samuel Beckett e Alberto Giacometti di cui indaga le problematiche fenomenologiche e gnoseologiche legate alla visione. Durante il 2009 ha partecipato alla scuola estiva School of Critism and Theory alla Cornell University presso la quale ha approfondito alcuni aspetti teorici delle nozioni di "voce", di "rappresentazione" e di "ideologia". Interessi principali: arti moderne, cinema, letteratura di viaggio; problematiche teoriche attorno alle nozioni dell'intenzione, della rappresentazione e dello stile; questioni di marketing e comunicazione commerciale; antropologia, semiotica.
Gaspare Tigliè: nato ad Arezzo, ha conseguito la laurea triennale presso l'Università di Siena (sede di Arezzo), con una tesi in letteratura italiana dal titolo: Il dialogo sociale tra classi diverse nel Decameron. Ha poi frequentato il corso di laurea magistrale in Letteratura e spettacolo (curriculum Letterature d'Italia e d'Europa) della stessa Facoltà, laureandosi in letteratura italiana con una tesi sulla riscrittura del Mastro-don Gesualdo.
Marco Bernini ha conseguito la laurea in Lettere moderne presso l'Università degli Studi di Bologna, discutendo una tesi dal titolo Percorsi d'identità. Crisi e recupero del soggetto nella poesia italiana contemporanea dagli anni Sessanta ad oggi. È iscritto al secondo anno della Scuola di Dottorato di Ricerca in Italianistica (Università di Parma) in cotutela con l'Ecole Doctorale de Littérature Générale et Comparée (Universite Paris III - Sorbone Nouvelle), svolgendo una tesi dal titolo Sul dorso della parola. Per una teoria del fallimento dialogico nella narrativa contemporanea, sul concetto di fallimento, dialogismo e personaggio nell'opera di Beckett, Sanguineti, Gadda, Perec. Nel 2008 è nominato Cultore della materia in Letterature Comparate presso l'Università di Parma e Cultore della materia in Letteratura italiana contemporanea presso l'Università di Bologna. Ha pubblicato articoli e recensioni per "Poetiche", "Studi Culturali", "Studi e problemi di critica testuale", "Edimburgh Journal of Gadda Studies".
Luca Raimondi ha 26 anni e viene da Carpi. Dopo la laurea triennale in Lingue e Letterature Straniere a Bologna ha proseguito i suoi studi universitari presso lo stesso ateneo iscrivendosi alla laurea specialistica in Letterature Comparate e Culture Postcoloniali, laureandosi con una tesi in Letteratura dei Paesi di Lingua Inglese incentrata sul rapporto tra morte e storytelling.
Rossella Ammendola ha conseguito la laurea triennale presso l'Università degli Studi di Siena con sede in Arezzo, con la tesi: Tragedia, commedia, genere misto nell'Inferno dantesco. Ha conseguito la laurea magistrale presso l'Università degli Studi di Siena con sede in Arezzo, con la tesi: Lucrezia Borgia, Artemisia, Dalla parte di lei: tre romanzi, tre donne. Attualmente è dottoranda di ricerca presso l'Università degli studi di Siena, e sta studiando per la tesi: Donne in città: personaggi femminili nella narrativa e nel cinema della modernità, 1945-1965.
Stefania Sterlecchini si è laureata in Lingue e letterature straniere presso l'università degli studi di L'Aquila, con una tesi sul teatro irlandese di Brian Friel. I suoi campi di ricerca sono il dramma e lo spettacolo inglesi del Novecento, la scrittura femminile, poetica e narrativa, dell'Irlanda contemporanea, le rappresentazioni letterarie e culturali della città di Londra. Ha pubblicato "Parole chiave in The Tempest" (2006), "La rapsodia londinese di Penelope Lively" (2007); in corso di pubblicazione, il volume "Frammenti d'Irlanda nel teatro di Brian Friel" e i saggi "Under a blood red sky. L'Irlanda dei Troubles" e "Minaret di Leila Aboulela: dall'esilio a una nuova casa". Attualmente è docente a contratto di Lingua e Cultura Inglese presso l'università di Teramo, facoltà di Scienze della Comunicazione. Presso la medesima facoltà, è dottoranda in "Culture, linguaggi e politica della comunicazione" con un progetto di ricerca sulla Londra contemporanea come città della comunicazione.
Carla Francellini si è laureata in Lettere alla Sapienza di Roma e ha conseguito il master in "Traduzione letteraria" all'Università di Siena, dove frequenta al momento il dottorato di ricerca in "Letteratura comparata e traduzione del testo letterario". Per la sua tesi dottorale studia l'evoluzione del romanzo italo-americano. Ha collaborato con diverse istituzioni accademiche e ha insegnato letteratura italiana per la Pepperdine University. E' titolare di una cattedra di Italiano e Latino presso il Liceo Scientifico Colasanti nella Tuscia. Si occupa di traduzione letteraria e ha tradotto le poesie di alcune autrici canadesi di rilievo tra le quali Margaret Avison.

Claudia Fimiani si è laureata in lingue e letterature straniere all'Università di Roma "Tor Vergata" con una tesi di traduzione sui lavori di Steven Bloom. Nel 2008 ha terminato il Master in traduzione letteraria presso l'Università di Roma "Tor Vergata". Attualmente è iscritta al Dottorato di Ricerca in Anglistica all'Università di Roma "Tor Vergata"; è cultore della materia in "Lingue e letterature anglo-americane" e "Lingua e letteratura inglese". La sua attività di ricerca si concentra sull'opera di Washington Irving, in particolare su The Sketchbook of Geoffrey Crayon, puntando l'attenzione sui seguenti aspetti: ricezione dell'opera in Gran Bretagna, Stati Uniti e Italia; rapporto tra storia e tradizione; elementi visionari, sogno e memoria; richiami alle arti visive. Irina Marchesini has got her second-level degree in Theory of Literature, at Bologna University (Italy), where she is now researching as a PhD student in Comparative Literatures. Her research is focused on the problem of the relationship between the author and his characters in the postmodern self-conscious fiction. She has published several articles on Nabokov, such as " Un caso particolare di bilinguismo: La vera vita di Sebastian Knight di Vladimir Nabokov " for Linguae &. Rivista di lingue e culture moderne 2007-1 (Urbino University) and "A Conjuror's smile: Vladimir Nabokov in The Real Life of Sebastian Knight" for Image [&] Narrative, Vol.X, issue 2, 2009 (University of Leuven). She is specialist (culture della materia) in Russian literature.

Rachele Branchini (Fabriano, 1986), après une Licence en Littératures Modernes à l’Université de Bologne, est en train d’achever la rédaction de son mémoire de Master II en Littérature Comparée sur le thème des jumeaux dans le roman contemporain. En particulier elle s'occupe des oeuvres d' Agota Kristof, de Michel Tournier et de Bruce Chatwin.
Giovanni de Leva (Napoli, 1980) a fait ses études à l'Université Federico II de Naples, où il a obtenu sa maîtrise avec un mémoire intitulé 'Michel de Montaigne. Etica ed estetica del sé', et à l'Université de Sienne (École Doctorale 'Logos e rappresentazione', section 'Comparatistica: letteratura, teatro e cinema' avec une thèse portant le titre : 'Dalla Trama al Personaggio. Rubè di Borgese e il romanzo modernista'). Il a obtenu son doctorat en avril 2009 et s'occupe actuellement de la littérature italienne de la première guerre mondiale. Il participe à Synapsis depuis 2006.
Guido Furci (1984) a fait ses études à l'Université de Sienne et à l'Université de Paris 3 (Sorbonne Nouvelle). Actuellement il est boursier de la Sélection Internationale à l'Ecole Normale Supérieure de Paris (section Lettres et Sciences Humaines) et travaille à l'Université de Genève, où il a été admis à préparer le Certificat de spécialisation en Littérature et Esthétique, dirigé par Patrizia Lombardo et Laurent Jenny. Son sujet de thèse porte sur l'œuvre romanesque et critique de trois auteurs, dont il est en train de repérer la correspondance inédite : Philip Roth, Primo Levi, Aharon Appelfeld.
Guido Mattia Gallerani a 24 ans et vient de Modène. Il a étudié en Italie et France et son mémoire de maîtrise concerne le projet de roman de Roland Barthes et l'évolution de ses essais. Il s'occupe aussi de poésie italienne contemporaine dans des revues militantes ainsi que dans des anthologies. En particulier, il a étudié la contamination et le problème de l'objectivité du genre poétique. Il s'occupe d'organisation culturelle, d'organisation de colloques et de transmissions radiophoniques à propos du monde de la poésie. Il a également traduit de la poésie française contemporaine.
Orsetta Innocenti (Italie, 1972) a obtenu une Maîtrise ès Lettres Modernes (Università di Pisa), ainsi qu'un Diplôme de 'Corso Ordinario' de la Scuola Normale Superiore de Pise. Elle a aussi obtenu son Doctorat en Littérature Comparée (Università di Roma Tre) et une bourse postdoctorale à l'Université de Bologne. En 2001 elle a passé son agrégation et depuis septembre 2001 elle enseigne les lettres à l'Istituto di Istruzione Superiore (Empoli). Depuis Mars 2004 elle enseigne aussi la littérature italienne à l'Université de Sienne (Arezzo). Elle appartient au Comité Exécutif de Synapsis depuis 2000. Sa recherche et ses publications comprennent la représentation du roman dans la littérature européenne contemporaine, la relation entre la littérature et l'histoire, la relation entre la science et la littérature, et la littérature jeunesse et enfantine.
Elisabetta Lo Vecchio, 31 ans, licenciée ès lettres sous la direction de Remo Ceserani en 2003 (avec une dissertation en littérature comparée sur la représentation de la figure de Judas Iscariote dans la littérature occidentale), a obtenu le Doctorat de recherche en Littérature Comparée à l'Université de Bologne en 2007 avec une thèse sur la représentation de Jésus Christ dans l'imaginaire de l'Occident sécularisé, sous la direction de Federico Bertoni (Université de Bologne) et de Gianni Vattimo (Université de Turin). Elle a déjà participé à quatre années de Synapsis (2003, 2004, 2005, 2007) et publié dans les 'Cahiers de Synapsis' trois articles, le premier sur la représentation de la ville pendant la peste dans les romans de Defoe, Manzoni, et Camus, le deuxième sur la négation de la fenêtre dans Korrektur de Thomas Bernhard, le troisième sur le scandale de la croix dans l'œuvre de D. H. Lawrence et N. Kazantzakis. En mai 2009 elle a obtenu l'agrégation de l'enseignement supérieur pour enseigner le latin, l'italien, l'histoire et la géographie dans les lycées italiens.
Dr. Isabella Martini a 28 ans. Elle a obtenu sa Licence en Langues Étrangères (Université de Pise) en 2004 et sa Maîtrise en Traduction de Textes Littéraires (Université de Pise) en 2006. Actuellement, elle fréquente la troisième année du cours de Doctorat en Littératures Étrangères Modernes, toujours à l'Université de Pise. La littérature post-coloniale en anglais, et en particulier celle du Canada, de l'Inde et de l'Australie, est son principal domaine d'étude. À présent, elle s'occupe du récit anglo-canadien contemporain, et en particulier des séquences de récits de Mavis Gallant. Elle est membre de l'ESSE (Société Européenne pour l'Étude de l'Anglais), l'AIA (Association Italienne d'Études Anglaises), l'AISC (Association Italienne d'Études Canadiennes) et de l'AISLI (Association Italienne pour l'Étude des Littératures en Anglais).
Elena Mazzoleni a trente ans et est chargée de cours à l'Université de Bergame. Elle a déjà participé à Synapsis lors de l'édition de 2005 dédiée aux cinq sens. Elle a fait ses études à la Faculté 'Lingue e Letterature straniere' de l'Université de Bergame. En 2005 elle a obtenu une bourse de doctorat en 'Teoria e analisi del testo' et pendant trois ans elle a travaillé sur l'analyse des figures de l'absence dans la littérature française du XIXème siècle. En 2008, après avoir terminé son doctorat, elle a reçu une bourse post-doctorale qui lui a permis d'étudier de manière plus approfondie une figure de l'absence qu'elle trouve très significative au sein de la culture française fin-de-siècle, celle de Pierrot. À présent elle conduit des recherches en cette direction, à savoir la représentation de Pierrot en tant qu'" image " de l'ombre. Elle vient d'établir et de présenter l'édition de l'ouvrage Pierrot de Henri Rivière.
Beatrice Seligardi est née en 1986. En 2008 elle a obtenu une Licence (laurea triennale) à l'Université de Parme dans le cours de 'Civiltà letterarie e storia delle civiltà' avec un mémoire en Littérature Comparée sur les rapports entre le 'stream of consciousness' et la ville dans la littérature moderniste. Elle vient de valider la première année du master (laurea magistrale) en 'Italianistica' à l'Université de Bologne. Elle a déjà participé à Synapsis en 2008 (au séminaire de Prof. Agus qui portait sur la photographie et la ville). Elle espère continuer ses études en Littérature comparée et Théorie de la Littérature.
Simão Valente, 21, a récemment obtenu sa licence ès Arts et Cultures Comparées à l'Université de Lisbonne. Il est Junior Researcher au Centre d'Etudes Comparées à l'Université de Lisbonne. Il s'intéresse principalement à: l'herméneutique, le romantisme, le poétique dans sa relation aux processus cognitifs. Il fait actuellement candidature pour une maîtrise en Littérature Comparée à l'Université de Lisbonne et à l'Université de Bologne.
Begehrte Schatten: Fiktionen der Schattenlosigkeit
André Hansen ist 23 Jahre alt und studiert Französisch sowie Allgemeine und Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft an der Johannes-Gutenberg-Universität Mainz. Er nimmt am trinationalen Studienprogramm der Universitäten Mainz, Dijon und Bologna teil und schließt einen Teil seines Studiums im Jahr 2009 mit der französischen Licence und der italienischen Laurea triennale ab. Dabei beschäftigt er sich im Rahmen einer Abschlussarbeit mit Robbe-Grillets Kritik an der Tragödie. Anschließend beendet er sein Magisterstudium in Mainz.
Monika Bregovic, 25, hat ihr Studium in Vergleichenden Literaturen und Anglistik an der Universität von Zagreb mit einer Master-Arbeit über Francis Beaumonts drama The Knight of the Burning Pestle und New Historicism abgeschlossen. Sie ist auch eine Vergleichende Literaturen Doktorandin an der selben Universität. Sie arbeitet als Literaturübersetzerin für Englisch auf den Sachgebieten Belletristik und Biographie und hat mehrere Artikel über die neuere englische und kroatische Literatur geschrieben.
Silvia Barocci ist 29 Jahre alt und kommt aus der Universität Macerata, wo sie ihr Studium (Anglistik und Germanistik) durchgeführt hat. Ihr Magisterarbeit über die englische Schriftstellerin Mary Butts hat in 2005 die Auszeichnung bekommen. Nach einem Diplom in International Marketing (2006), hat sie in 2008 ihr Lehramtstudium in Englisch als Fremdsprache an der Ssis Marche (Universität Macerata) beendet. Während ihres Studienlaufes hat sie als Journalistin an der Zeitung Il Messaggero gearbeitet. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind: Komparatistik, Geschlechterstudien, Theorie der Literatur, Theorie der Bildung und Erziehung, Ethik und Erziehung, Fähigkeiten-Ansatz (Capabilities approach). Im Jahr 2002 hat sie in Deutschland (Universität Göttingen) studiert und 2009 am Lycée Brassens (Rive de Gier) Italienisch unterrichtet.
Annalisa Brugnoli (1977) erwarb ihren MA in Fremdsprachen und Literaturwissenschaft an der Universität Venedig mit einer Abschlussarbeit über das Genuis Loci in Nathaniel Hawthornes The Scarlet Letter. Darüber hinaus spezialisierte sie sich auf dem Gebiet der literarischen Übersetzung an der Scuola Europea di Traduzione Letteraria von Turin. Dieses Frühjahr verteidigte sie ihre Doktorarbeit "Shadows Stalk the Stage. The Penumbral Element in Eugene O'Neill's Work", eine Studie des Schattens als Phänomen und Tropus im Werk von Eugene O'Neill. Dunja Plazonja, 25, hat ihr Studium in Vergleichenden Literaturen und Anglistik an der Universität von Zagreb mit einer Diplomarbeit über Antonia Susan Byatt und ihr Possession:A Romance und Roland Barthes abgeschlossen. Sie ist auch eine Vergleichende Literaturen Doktorandin an der Universität von Zagreb und in ihrer Doktorarbeit beschäftigt sie sich mit britische Gegenwartsliteratur im Rahmen der Erzähltheorie und Intertextualitätstheorie. Ulrike Küchler, 26, hat an der Universität Potsdam und der Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen Komparatistik, Philosophie und Amerikanistik studiert. In ihrer Magisterarbeit (2008) untersuchte sie literarische Darstellungen künstlichen Lebens und schließt nun thematisch mit ihrer Promotion daran an. Im Anschluss an ihr Studium war sie zwei Semester als Teaching Assistant am German Department der Brown University (USA) tätig und konnte dort neben der Lehrtätigkeit ihre Studien zum Promotionsthema vertiefen, u.a. im Rahmen einer Konferenz an der UC Berkeley im März 2009. Seit Mai 2009 ist sie als Assistentin am Lehrstuhl für Komparatistik in Tübingen tätig. Zu ihren akademischen Interessengebieten zählen u.a. künstliches Leben in Literatur und Film, europäische und amerikanische Literatur des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts, Phantastische Literatur sowie Globalisierung und interkultureller Dialog.
Alessandra Sorrentino, 33, ist Mitarbeiterin und Doktorandin am Institut für Romanistik an der Ludwig Maximilians Universität München. In ihrer Doktorarbeit beschäftig Sie sich mit Luigi Pirandello und der postkolonialen Theorie. Sie ist DAAD Stipendiatin im Rahmen des STIBET Projekt: Teaching/Research-Assistantship und Mitarbeiterin des Europäischen Pirandello Zentrum e.V. Sie studierte Italianistik an der Università Federico II di Napoli und schloss mit der Diplomarbeit über "Brigantaggio" in Süd Italien im Jahr 1860-61 ab. Sie arbeitete mit an dem von Professor Dr. Dr. Michael Rössner und Mag. Dr. Fausto De Michele publizierten Buch "Essays über Luigi Pirandello" (2007).
Swetlana Boos, 21 Jahre alt, geboren in Chisinau, Moldawien, kommt aus Berlin. Auslandsjahr in Missouri, USA, Teilnehmerin der Sommerschule zum Thema "Logisch-analytische Zugriffe auf Textualität, Fiktionalität und Autorschaft" im Rahmen der Deutschen SchülerAkademie 2006. Studiert sei 2007 Allgemeine und Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft sowie Slawistik an der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. Schwerpunkte in russischer Literaturtheorie (Bachtin, russischer Formalismus), gender studies sowie Psychoanalyse, v. a. in der russischen Rezeption. Ihre Bachelor-Arbeit wird sich mit Fremdheitskonzepten in der russischen Literatur beschäftigen.
Monica Valcavi arbeitet seit 10 Jahren als Leherin für English (Sprache und Literatur) bei italienischen Hochschulen. Sie ist jetzt Lehrerin bei Liceo Classico in Reggio Emilia, Italien. Sie hat ihre staatliche Habilitation für FremdSprachen (English und Deutsch) in 2000 erlangen und in 1998 hat sie ihr Studium in Europäische Fremdsprache an der Universität von Parma mit einer Diplomarbeit über irische Literatur abgeschlossen. Sie hat neulich ihr Doktorat in Postkolonialen Literaturen an der Universität von Bologna erworben; in ihrer Doktorarbeit beschäftigte sie sich mit dem Theater des Dichters Derek Walcott im Rahmen der interkulturellen Perspektiven besonders in Bezug auf die interkulturelle Semiotik des Theaters.Über Derek Walcott hat sie auch mehrere Artikel veröffentlicht.
Shadows of the Mind: Imagination, Delusion, Ghosts
FRANCESCO EUGENIO BARBIERI obtained a MA in Comparative Literature from the University of Bologna in 2009, where he studied American, German, Japanese, Italian and Persian literature. He discussed a dissertation in Literary Theory in which he analyzed the changes in the structure of the early 20th century novel and their functions, in a comparative perspective among American (Dos Passos and Faulkner), German (Döblin) and Japanese literature (Akutagawa and Kawabata). To complete his studies he attended, enrolled as a graduate student, the class of "Modern and Contemporary Japanese Literature" held by Professor Luisa Bienati, at the Department of East Asian Studies of the Ca' Foscari University, as well as the annual seminar of "Centro Studi Americani" in Rome, on the topic of the multi-ethnicity in contemporary American literature. He also gave lectures in the class of American literature for graduate students (laurea magistrale) of Prof. Giovanna Franci, dealing with the structure of American Modernist Novel. His main interests concern a theoretical and structural approach to the form of the 19th and 20th Century novel in a comparative view from United States to Germany and its reception in the structure of the Japanese modernist and postmodernist novel, as well as the history and development of contemporary literary theory in these areas. He is presently studying the influences of German writers E. T. A. Hoffmann e W. Raabe in the narrative of the Japanese author Mori Ogai.
MARCO CARACCIOLO is 24 years old. He's a PhD student in Comparative Literature at the University of Bologna. Although he has a background in Italian literature (his BA thesis dealt with embodiment and metalepsis in Fenoglio's Il partigiano Johnny), since his MA thesis he's been working on largely literary-theoretical issues, such as the reader's embodiment and the nexus between perceptual and hermeneutic spaces. At the moment, he's trying to make sense of the latest developments in cognitive science and see if they have anything to say about literature at all. In a way, he just wishes he could go back to reading Balzac as if nothing had happened. He also has a somewhat serious interest in computer games.
BETH COGGESHALL is 28 years old and comes from St. Louis, Missouri, USA. She received her BA in Medieval Studies and Italian from the University of Notre Dame (Indiana) in 2003, and completed an MA in Comparative Studies at the Ohio State University in 2006. Her MA thesis is entitled "Interdiscursivity, Religious Myth, and Claims to Truth in the Libro della Scala and the Commedia", and from this and related research she published an article in the journal Telos. She is currently enrolled in the PhD program in Italian at Stanford University (California) where she plans to write a dissertation on the role of the imagination and the phantasm in medieval poetry, with a focus on the lyric of Dante and Cavalcanti.
JANET GOMEZ is 25 years old and lives in Florida. In 2007, she graduated from the University of Florida with a B.A. in English Literature and minors in French and Italian. She did a comparative undergraduate thesis on Dante and W.H. Auden. She has studied English, French and Italian literature. She has just finished a seminar this summer in at the Universita degli studi di Siena in Arezzo with Professor Roberto Bigazzi on Ariosto's Orlando Furioso. Currently, she is in her last year of her Masters in Italian Studies at Florida State University and is looking forward to applying to Ph D. programs this fall.
FRANCESCA MONTANINO is 26 years old and comes from Forlì, but is currently living in Rome. She graduated in 2008 at "La Sapienza" University with a degree thesis on the relations between novel and playwriting in Moravia's works titled "Gli Indifferenti" dal romanzo al teatro: questioni e problemi di scrittura scenica. She is currently completing her first year as a PHD student in Arezzo (Post Graduate school: "Logos e Rappresentazione: Letteratura, Teatro e Cinema) and she is working on a thesis about Shakespeare's "Merchant of Venice", focused on its rewritings and interferences with literature, film and performances from Seventeenth to Twentieth century. She has studied and worked for a long time in theatre (In 2006 she attended a biennial course at "Accademia Nazionale Silvio D'Amico" in Rome, that concerned directing and teaching theatre. She has also worked as an actress and an assistant director in different productions in Italy, and she published two books with a publishing house that specializes in performances studies: The first, "Diari per una regia Teatrale", was a compilation of interviews, and the second, "Monade e coro", was a monographic study on the work of the theatre director Marco Martinelli and his group in Ravenna.
ARIADNE NUNES, 37 years old, comes from Lisbon, Portugal. She graduated in Law and in Línguas e Literaturas Modernas, Portuguese Studies. Lawyer, now with the inscription at the BAR suspended. She has been working on a project of a critical edition of the Crónica de D. João I, by Fernão Lopes, a medieval writer. She is now enrolled in the PhD program of Comparative Studies, in Universidade de Lisboa, and she is preparing a thesis about the idea of book and reading in a medieval Portuguese text - The Livro de Virtuosa Benfeytoria. She wrote a paper about Grande Sertão: Veredas, by Guimarães Rosa to be published in the book to come "Espaços e Caminhos de João Guimarães Rosa: dimensões regionais e universalidade".
ELEONORA PIZZINAT is 29 years old and lives in Bologna. In 2004 she graduated in Literary Theory at the University of Trieste with a thesis about authorship and the figure of the character-writer in some contemporary novels. Two months ago she defended her Ph.D. thesis in Comparative Literature at the University of Bologna on frames and double binds in the works by J. M. Coetzee. She is currently working on her research planning to publish it.
MARTINA PRANIC is 26 years old and comes from Zagreb, Croatia. She graduated in English and Comparative Literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, and wrote an MA thesis in Film Studies on the topic The Films of Jim Jarmusch and the Question of Genre. She is now enrolled in the PhD program in Literature, Performance Arts Film and Culture at the same University. She is working on a dissertation in the field of Translation Studies, more specifically translatability and poetic translation, as well as several papers in the same field. She has a paper that examines Jim Jarmusch's postmodern western Dead Man in the context of Mikhail Bakhtin's theory of the carnival, entitled "A Travel With Nobody in Search of America", awaiting publication.
RENATA REDFORD is 24 years old and will be applying to PhD programs in Italian Literature this fall. She received her undergraduate laurea in English and American Literature at the University of Florida with an emphasis in Italian Studies and art history. She is currently enrolled as a Masters student in the Italian Studies program at Florida State University and is working on an independent project studying the manifestation of shadows in the works of Eugenio Montale. She has studied Ariosto extensively with Dr. Roberto Bigazzi and has a strong interest in the transhistorical examination of certain themes in literature.
CHIARA ROLLI is 31 years old and comes from Parma. She graduated both in Classics and Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Parma. She obtained her first degree in 2001, writing a philological dissertation concerning Seneca's moral epistle No.73. As for her second "laurea", she submitted a thesis entitled Patrick McGrath's Martha Peake. A Textual Analysis, in 2004. In 2006 she received an MA in "Culture Française, Francophonie et Image Politique du Monde" from the Department of Political Studies at the University of Parma. She has been nominated "Cultore della materia: Letteratura inglese" and from 2006 to 2009 she has taught English Literature courses (Twentieth Century British Fiction and Gothic Fiction) to first-year Communication Science students. She is currently enrolled in the PhD program in "Latin and Greek Philology" at the University of Parma, carrying out her research within the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures. She plans to write a dissertation on the reception of the Classics in modern and contemporary literatures.
SARA SALVADORI is 24 years old and comes from Rome. She graduated (Laurea Triennale) in Lingue e Comunicazione Internazionale at Roma Tre University, with a thesis on Doris Lessing: "Something wrong with me" The theme of mental illness within the collection "To Room Nineteen" by Doris Lessing. She is currently enrolled at the same university to complete her Laurea Specialistica in Linguistics.
ANDREA TREFOLONI is 25 years old and comes from Pistoia. He graduated in Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Bologna in 2007, and wrote a bachelor thesis on Virginia Woolf's diaries: Il genere diaristico nel diario di una scrittrice di Virginia Woolf. He has recently completed a master specialization in "Comparative Literatures" and he is starting to work on his new thesis on the supernatural in Henry James. His work will focus in particular on the "Ghostly tales", and James's most ambiguous work "The turn of the screw".

My name is Birgitte Beck Pristed. I have studied Comparative Literature, Modern Culture Studies and Russian at the University of Copenhagen. In November 2006 I graduated with a master thesis on "Russian Writers' Homes Museums". As a museum worker I have coordinated a Nordic-Baltic travelling exhibition: www.dreamfactories.eu. Since April 2009 I am a Ph.D.-student at the University of Mainz, preparing a dissertation with the working title: "Post-Soviet Russian Book Covers. Changing Values in Visual Representation of Literary Texts".Francesca Di Tonno (3.10.1983) was born in Penne (Pe). After scientific school-leaving certificate, she took a degree in Contemporary Russian Literature at the University of Bologna. She studied in Berlin and in S.Petersburg at the Smolnyi Institut. In Milan, she worked as television editor for 'Quadrio s.r.l' (Magnolia). She spent a period in Moscow and now she lives in Bologna, where she took her master's degree (laurea specialistica) in Comparative Literature with a degree thesis on B. Brecht's reception in the Soviet Union.
Gennaro Di Biase was born in Naples in 1983. He graduated in 2008 in "Linguistica italiana e civiltà letterarie" in Bologna. His main research field are theory of fiction and the holy literatures. In Bologna he is now working on two essays: "Antonio Delfini, il comico tra teologia e finzione", and "La discrezione ipocrita, una lettura della sesta bolgia". He is reviewer for the literature review "Atelier"; and he published "Dalla struttura scissa all'inversione; un commento a Natale in casa Cupiello" in the review "Paragrafo" n V.
Irina Marchesini has got her second-level degree in Theory of Literature, at Bologna University (Italy), where she is now researching as a PhD student in Comparative Literatures. Her research is focused on the problem of the relationship between the author and his characters in the postmodern self-conscious fiction. She has published several articles on Nabokov, such as " Un caso particolare di bilinguismo: La vera vita di Sebastian Knight di Vladimir Nabokov " for Linguae &. Rivista di lingue e culture moderne 2007-1 and "A Conjuror's smile: Vladimir Nabokov in The Real Life of Sebastian Knight" for Image [&] Narrative, Vol.X, issue 2 (2009). She is specialist (cultore della materia) in Russian literature.
Marietta Chikhladze is 27 years old and comes from Tbilisi (Georgia). She graduated at Tbilisi State University, and wrote an MA thesis in Romance philology (in Italian) - Neorealism and the novel "Un borghese piccolo, piccolo". She later published an article "The Italian Novel and the Verbal Aspect of Cinema" on the journal "Theatre and Films Study Works". She is now enrolled in the PhD program in Comparative Literature at Bologna University. She is writing a dissertation on a comparison of Nicolaj Gogol's "Revisor" and "Accident death of an anarchist" by Dario Fo. She has also worked on the translation of Dario Fo's works from Italian language into Georgian. Some of them ("A la descoverta de le Americhe" and the "first day" of the "Manuale minimo dell'attore") have been published.
My name is Ute Raßloff. I studied German and Slovak philology and pedagogy in Bratislava (Czechoslovakia) from 1977 to 1982. 1982 - 1999 I did my PhD and worked as research assistant and teacher at the Institute of Slavonic Studies at the Humboldt-University in Berlin. Since 2001 I am working at the Institute of Central- and Eastern European Historical and Cultural Studies in Leipzig where I am now coordinating the research project "Cultural Spaces of Interference. East Central Europe in the 20th Century". My special comparative current research is on a crucial topos of Upper Hungarian and later Polish, Czech and Slovak culture: the popular highwayman Juraj Jánošík (1688-1713). Other interests: modern lyric poetry, national myths and stereotypes in Central European cultures, questions of translation.
Carmen VAN den Bergh is 23 years old and lives in Leuven (Belgium). She graduated in Foreign Languages and Literatures (Italian and Dutch) at the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium) with a masterthesis entitled Malaparte e le sue 'Prospettive'. Le riviste del Novecento fra consenso e dissenso (1937-1943). Over the last few years she has developed an increasing interest for the 20th century Italian literature and more specific for the post-war period. Actually she is pursuing a PhD dealing the neorealistic novel under supervision of Prof. dr. Bart Van den Bossche at the Catholic University of Leuven. Since last year she has been working there as an assistant of Italian literature, where she has been teaching Italian grammar and language to the 2nd Bachelor students.
