The Experiments: information on Siloxane Compounds
Siloxane compounds include both linear molecules (e.g. polydimethylsiloxanes, PDS) and crown molecules (e.g. octamethylsiloxane, OCT), containing H, O, C and Si atoms. The structure of PDS molecules is sketched in this first picture
In the next two figures, a schema of the structure of PDS molecule is shown in the case of chains of 20 and 60 silicon atoms, respectively. The Carbonium atoms are represented in blue colour, the Silicon atoms in green colour, the Hydrogen atoms in sky-blue colour and the Oxygen atoms in red colour.
The crown structure of the OCT siloxane molecule is shown in the next figure, with the same atom colour identification.
Detailed information on siloxane compounds can be found e.g. in the web site of the United Chem.
