Master of Second Level in
Cosmetic Science and Technology
Master. The aim of the Master is to give the theoretical and practical knowledge required for the preparation of highly qualified specialists in Science and Technology of Cosmetic Products.
The Master will give basic knowledge relevant for carrying out activities in the fields of formulation, production, control, marketing and technical scientific information related to the cosmetic world.
The Master is addressed to the graduates who want to acquire the deep scientific knowledge for working in the Research, research and Development, Analytical and Microbiological Control laboratories and Marketing or in structures for the certification.
The training obtained in the theoretical and in the practical courses is highly qualifying and it also enables to carry out the activities of Technical Manager and Safety Evaluator.
Qualifications for the Admission
The graduates in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology, Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Biological Science and Chemical Engineering or in possession of an equivalent degree obtained from foreign Universities can apply to the competition for the admission to the Master.
Admission and Enrolment
On the basis of the available structures and facilities a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 25 students are admitted to the Master.
The Master lasts two years and it allows to obtain 120 EC (Educational Credits). It is in agreememt with the Istituto Superiore di Sanità.

With the application the student must enclose:
The degree certificate with the list of the examinations and corresponding marks.
Abstract of the degree thesis.
Curriculum vitae et studiorum.
Any titles if related to the Master.
Front-back photocopy of a valid identification document.
Candidates, who posses an academic qualification obtained abroad, comparable for period and content to Italian academic qualification requested for the admission to the chosen course, may present the application form.
Nevertheless, the registration is dependent on the evaluation of qualifications suitability by Academic Classes with the sole object of registration as well as of getting through as provided.

All foreign language documents must be officially translated in Italian, authenticated and provided with a declaration of their legal value by the Italian diplomatic delegation (representation) abroad competent for that Country. The office Affari Generali Studenti will control the correspondence between the documents produced (showed) and the regulations in force and will pass on the papers to Ufficio Formazione e Post Laurea.
Citizen from outside of the European Union, non-residents of Italy, will present the application form to the Italian Diplomatic representatives of their zone or last residence who will pass on to University, taking care to verify the possession, by interested person, of all requisites for the competitive examination.
To be admitted to the Master it’s necessary to pass an oral examination on the following topics: General and Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry. It will take place:
The pass-list will be decided on the basis of the qualifications sent and the result obtained in the oral examination. The office will send the winners the deadline for filling the application form.
The candidates will be admitted to the courses according to the pass-list order up to the competition of the available posts.
If any entitled student should give up other candidates will take his(her) place according to the pass-list order.
Attendance and Obligations
The beginning of the courses is foreseen for the May 2007.
Attendance of the Master Courses is compulsory.
Seat of the Master
The Master will take place by the seat of the Centre of Cosmetic Science and Technology, University of Siena, - Via della Diana 2 – 53100 Siena Italy.
Description of the Courses
The courses are organized on the basis of frontal lessons, individual practical training and activities under the teacher’s guidance.
The courses are held by university teachers and Italian and/or foreign experts (coming from public or private institutions).
Admission credits acknowledgement
The credits concerning similar subjects obtained with the Master of second level are acknowledged.
Enrolment fee
The enrolment fee is established in 2500 Euro, per year, to pay in two instalments: the first one at the time of enrolment and the second one within 31 October 2007.
The voluntary renunciation to the studies excludes the refund of the Master enrolment fee.
The Master enrolment fee is not subjected to the application form I.V.A and thus it is not possible to give a receipt.
Examination tests and final test
Examination tests will be carried out during and at the end of the courses.
The final test consists in the discussion of an original written contribute of the student.
Achievement of the Degree
As established in the Art.7 of the Master Regulation of the University of Siena, the Master is issued, following the certification of the end of the course, with the signature of the Coordinator of the Master, of the Administrative director and of the Chancellor of the University of Siena.
The issue of the final certificate is done on request to be made on a form available by the Ufficio Formazione Post Laurea.
Members of the Master
Members of the Master are the Coordinator and the teaching staff. The teaching staff is made up of
person in charge of the disciplinary sectors of the Master and it’s presided by the Coordinator.
The teaching stuff is responsible of the teaching organization.
The Coordinator is responsible of all the administrative functions except those attributed to the other members.
