Welcome address

Fifty years ago Denis Burkitt first described a new lymphoma entity which frequently starts to grow in the jaw region of male African children. To honour this pivotal discovery the International Conference on Burkitt Lymphoma and related Lymphoproliferative Disorders will be held in Kampala, Uganda, where Denis Burkitt made his path breaking observation.
The Congress, which will be organized in collaboration with the Makerere University (Kampala) and the European Association of Hematopathology, is dedicated to basic and clinical research on Burkitt lymphoma and other types of aggressive B-cell lymphoma. The rapid progress in this field of research guarantees the presentation of new and fascinating data. Especially the selection of proffered abstracts for side-by-side oral presentations together with invited speakers is a motivating challenge for all scientists.
The meeting at this historical place offers a unique opportunity to bring together scientists covering many disciplines like pathology, epidemiology, molecular biology, genetics and clinical oncology. This will lead to joint activities between experts from many different countries with scientists and medical doctors from Central Africa. Therefore the congress might represent a milestone which will pave the road to a more successful treatment and to decipher the pathogenesis of Burkitt lymphoma and other aggressive B-cell lymphomas.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to Kampala/Uganda in February 2008
